Meet Dr. charles Nelson, Research Study’s Principle Investigator

Dr. Charles Nelson

 Dr. Charles Nelson, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who assesses and treats all sectors affected by workplace adversity/trauma. He has worked extensively with the police, EMS, fire fighters, Veterans, Canadian Forces Members, as well as civilians with posttraumatic stress disorder, associated anxiety and mood disorders, and chronic pain. He holds cross-appointments as an Adjunct Clinical Professor, Clinical Psychology Program, with Western University, as well as a former post with The Lawson Research Institute. He has presented at international conferences on suicide, trauma, vicarious resilience, pain, mild traumatic brain injury, and smoking cessation. He also assesses and treats injured workers and workers returning to work from medical leaves from local and provincial police services and firefighters. Dr. Nelson is the former Clinical Coordinator for the Operational Stress Injury Clinic at The Parkwood Institute in London, Ontario. He has worked closely with the RCMP Peer Support Program and conducted Ad Hoc Incident Reviews following adverse national policing events. To date, he and his colleagues have trained over 1000 RCMP members in Ontario as well as members of the Middlesex-London EPS with the Road To Mental Readiness (R2MR) sponsored by the Mental Health Commission of Canada. Dr. Nelson additionally provides oversight to the Peer Support Programs of the Middlesex-London EPS, Grey County and Lambton EMS. He has provided wellness training for leaders of Magna International and is a certified trainer of R2MR for paramedics and the police. He served as a Board Member with the Ontario Psychological Association for two terms, and in 2011, he was awarded the Psychological Service Provider of the Year by the London Regional Psychological Association.
